Debra speaks at Churches Together, Lymington
Following their attendance at our Nuts + Bolts 2008 conference, Joy Bingham and Janet High invited Debra to attend the Annual General Meeting of Churches Together in Lymington, Hampshire.
Churches Together in Lymington and District is a group of 11 churches seeking to work together to serve their community. The group is currently chaired by Joy Bingham, the leader of River of Life church.
The Annual General Meeting was held on Tuesday 4th November, in the Community Centre. Debra was invited as a guest speaker at the event, and shared the vision of Redeeming Our Communities. Debra showed the Highlights from the National Prayer Event on June 3rd, and talked about opportunities to pray for the Police, and for the young people in our communities. Debra encouraged the group to think about how they would like their community to look in the future, and how they could begin to work towards that by praying together and building on the existing partnerships.

Among those present at the meeting was the Mayor of Lymington, Mrs Martina Humber. Mrs Humber welcomed everyone to the meeting, also welcoming some represenattives of the local police force. Mrs Humber highlighted that there were many opportunities in Lymington for the church to work together and with the police for the good of the town as a whole.
One of the projects seeking to serve the community in Lymington is "Streetwise" (www.streetwiseproject.co.uk). The Streetwise project runs a detached youthwork service in the Waterside area. The project is co-ordinated by Erika Hamilton, and aims to provide practical support to the 11-20 yr olds of Waterside. The team go out on a Friday and Saturday night, offering hot chocolate and biscuits, a listening ear, and support in times of crisis. To find out more, visit their website, or email streetwiseproject@talktalk.net.
Another outreach project in Lymington in the Basics Bank, which seeks to provide food and hygeine items to the poor and needy on the area. They operate a voucher system, and the vouchers are distributed where appropriate by Social workers, health workers, refuges, hostels, churches, job centres and benefit offices. Fore more information, contact the Basics Bank Co-ordinator on 01590 610008.
