Parnership with Merseyside Police
Following the Redeeming Our Communities National Inter-Church Prayer Event on June 3rd 2008, there have been some great developments.
Bernard Lawson, Deputy Chief Constable of Merseyside Police, attended the evening as a VIP guest, and following the event invited Debra to discuss a potential partnership with Merseyside Police.
Bernard writes “I was very grateful for the invitation to attend your wonderful event on June 3rd. The contribution of Street Pastors and preachers as well as the living testaments made by attendees were very moving. The visible links to policing through Neil Wain and Matt Baggott showed that we can all work together. I trust we can build links and action."
Debra visited Police HQ in Liverpool on June 18th 2008, to meet with Chief Inspector Peter Owens .The meeting was positive, and subsequent meetings have taken place with Chief Inspectors Helen Corcoran and Andrew Fisher with a plan being made to host an event in Merseyside in 2009; similar to the 2008 prayer event, but with a specific Merseyside focus.
Following further meetings, a date has been agreed. Redeeming Our Communities will launch in Merseyside on 16th June 2009, at Livepool's Echo Arena. We are very excited about these developments, and are thrilled by the level of support for the initiative that is being shown by Merseyside Police. The event will see thousands of Christians gather to pray for crime reduction and community transformation in Merseyside, and will also present some specific goals for action over the coming year.
