ROC Conversation Feedback - Haydock

We'd like to start by saying a huge THANK YOU to you all for your participation in the evening and a special thanks to Sandra Morris for helping to organise and facilitate the evening. Also, thank you to Phil Lorenzo from Merseyside Fire and Rescue, Inspector Steve Lowe from Merseyside Police, and Headteacher Andy Pollard from Haydock Sports College. Also thanks to the local councillors, youth offending teams, and school governors in attendance.

The aim of these evenings is to identify new projects between church, police, local council, local residents and other stakeholders. We will be following up the suggestions made on Thursday night (listed below).

Please contact us with any news about new project ideas you are exploring, it is important that we keep track of everything to provide the most effective support and to give an accurate picture of the initiative in Haydock. This helps greatly to build positive strategic partnership between the church, police and statutory bodies.

Here are some of the points that were discussed and the outcomes from the evening:

What are the local needs/issues being faced by your community?

Lack of sports facilities
Kids left to their own devices, lack of guidance & discipline from parents, parenting skills
Activities for older people
Lack of communication about what is available!
Anti-social behaviour, eg King George Park, Tesco, Cooper Lane
Lack of male role models
Drug & Alcohol addictions
Crime punishments do not deter crime, inadequate

What a fantastic start to the ongoing conversation about how you can be actively pursuing a kinder and safer community, together!

There are several ways you can get involved in Redeeming Our Communities in the future:

Could you be a ROC Ambassador? If you would like more information, please contact us.

If you have a leadership role, would you be interested in joining a local ROC core team?

We are also hoping that churches might consider hosting a 'ROC Sunday' and inviting a local police officer along.

If you would like to know more about ROC Café or would like more information on how to get a project started please get in touch with us on 0161 946 2373 or email us.

If you would like to be put in contact with anyone else who was at this event or if we have missed any information in this email, please contact us and we will send them your contact details.

Some events to keep in mind in Haydock:

Cells Project - 13 November, (Time TBC), Children to see inner workings of prison life, to attempt to deter kids from crime. Contact Ian Hinton via
email or at 0151 7776155 for more information.
Grange Valley Youth Club - 3 December, 7:30-9:00pm, Open evening so residents can see youth off the street activities. Contact Eric Sheldon via email or at 01244 609317 for more information.

It’s great that we all share this vision to see our communities transformed. We are really keen to find churches and individuals to partner with; if you could help with practical support, prayer or finance we would love to hear form you. Please forward this to any people who were not able to attend or print off for people who do not have access to email.

Thank you,
