“A ‘Golden hour’ to hold meaningful discussions…”

Tuesday 7th February 2012

Since the ROC launch event in October various institutions, agencies and churches in Plymouth are seeking to offer strategic partnerships for community engagement.

  • Plymouth College of Art are seeking more community engagement, keen to help with Youth Groups, and eager for people to visit their facilities.

  • Fire, Police & Health Services are developing a project called ‘Safe & Healthy Homes’ wishing to provide training to church members who are willing to help visit homes of vulnerable people to offer support.

  • Derriford Hospital have asked for Youth Leaders to help engage with young people for whom alcohol misuse meant they finished their evening in A&E – capturing what they call, a ‘Golden hour’ to hold meaningful discussions with the youths concerned.

  • Probation Service: are seeking opportunities for Community Payback opportunities, whereby work projects could be developed, to draw alongside people at a significant juncture in their lives.

  • Community Policing have sought links with churches and there is already a firm proposal for a ROC Café in the city - more details to follow.

  • NHS Community Care are investigating the possibility of providing training to help Senior Citizen Luncheon clubs provide Memory Clinic sand Passive exercises, and a community liaison with Care Homes.

Other areas around the South West are having similar conversations at the moment and ROC is seeking to provide encouragement and direction, while individuals assess the possibilities for more community engagement.

The ROC Ambassadors Conference on the 9th-10th March is fast approaching, book your place to find out how you can get involved in ROC.
