Redeeming Our Communities National Bulletin - December 2006

Welcome to the sixth edition of the National Redeeming Our Communities bulletin. This bulletin contains news about Chesterfest, Church Urban Fund and Mercy Ministries. We are also publishing, by popular demand, a Step by Step guide to Redeeming Our Communities.
Redeeming Our Communities – Prayer & Policing in Partnership for Crime and Disorder Reduction
Redeeming Our Communities is about seeing community transformation through prayer and policing in partnership. We want to see a reduction in crime and disorder, the fear of crime diminished and confidence in our police forces restored. The most effective way we have seen of achieving this is through mobilising churches in prayer and partnership with criminal justice agencies, particularly the Police force, across the UK.
Christians and criminal justice agencies have a common aim to engage with their local police force and other groups to see crime and disorder reduced and communities transformed. Our methods may be different but our purpose is the same.
Redeeming Our Communities is looking to develop a two tier strategy:
- The first tier is to encourage and inform individuals and small groups to engage with their community and see prayer and action work together.
- The second tier is to recognise the churches, networks and Christian organisations involved in crime and disorder reduction schemes and encourage criminal justice agencies to see them as part of the solution and include them in crime and disorder reduction partnerships across the UK.
To help us achieve the first tier of our strategy, we have produced a pack to outline the first steps you can take in seeing transformation in your communities. We will share the lessons we have learnt, the ideas we have seen work, the pitfalls you should avoid and what you should do next. The step by step guide is on the web site. We can send you a copy if you request it.
