ROC Greater London - Autumn 2011 highlights

ROC Conversations

Two ROC Conversations were held in London during October, on 14th October in Newham in the south of the Borough and at Streatham Baptist church in Lambeth, South London on 19th October. The local community and churches came together with Metropolitan Police Safer Neighbourhood Teams and representatives from the local council to discuss in detail issues affecting both communities. A great deal of useful information came from both conversations and many great ideas about how churches and the police and local authorities can work together more effectively in partnership together locally.

ROC Mentoring

Discussions have also taken place during October to discuss the further development of the ROC Mentoring programme. Paul met with church leaders in Newham in East London to discuss working with churches, in particular proposals for working with young people more effectively to keep them out of the Criminal Justice System and also supporting ex-offenders on release from prison. Discussions are ongoing and further meetings are planned as we hope to launch this initiative to help churches become more active in this area.
