Official Opening Of Adswood & Bridgehall ROC Café Junior
On Friday 4th May, the official opening took place of an exciting new activity in Adswood and Bridgehall specifically for children from 5 to 11 years old. The first session was held in January, and has been running very well since, with excess of 50 children attending after school at 3.30 p.m. each week, and for 2 hours they can play games; do craft activities or just chill out with computer games and music - all in safe environment.
Neil Wain, ROC National Partnerships Manager, formerly acting Assistant Chief Constable of Greater Manchester Police, said “the Adswood ROC Café Junior is a first for ROC, as all our other cafés offer activities for 11-16 year olds; we’re very excited about it and would like to thank the volunteers for their vision and commitment to making it work”.
After a short speech by the Archdeacon of Macclesfield Ian Bishop, a tape was cut by Neil Wain from ROC and local volunteers and the ROC team were praised by local Police inspector Stephan Gilbertson and Helen Johnson from Stockport Council’s Neighbourhood Management Team, for their hard work and dedication in making the sessions such a success.
Pizza and chocolate lollies were made and enjoyed by the children and there was a splendid rainbow cake, baked by Lynn Hardyman, one of the volunteers. It was a very enjoyable occasion all round!
ROC which stands for ‘Redeeming our Communities’, brings together Statutory Services, to include Police, Fire Service, Local Authorities and others with the Churches in the area, to run local young people’s groups called ROC Cafés and they are mainly supported by volunteers.
