ROC Conversations - East Newham

Everyone who participated in this conversation would agree that it was a tremendous success! We benefited from the attendance of many representatives from the police and fire brigade including senior officers, council employees, local councillors and Stephen Timms MP. It was also great to have support from many of the local churches.
One council employee commented that they had never been to a meeting so well attended by such a diverse representation of the community. This was obviously exciting because, with such a broad selection of experience and views, it makes working together to develop an action plan for a safer community even more effective.
The success of the meeting was only possible due to the hard work of many individuals. We would like to thank everyone who helped to organise this evening as well as the people who gave up their precious time to participate in the conversation.
What did the evening involve?...
We enjoyed presentations from Paul Wilson (ROC), Stephen Timms MP, Nigel Mould (Newham Council Neighbourhood Manager), Chief Inspector Guy Wade , Sergeant Tyrone McMaster, and Fire Station Commander Wayne Brown.
Following the presentations, everyone split into smaller ward-based groups to make discussion easier. Each of these groups fed back the specific issues they identified for their area as well as a host of ideas to help solve them. Many people in the groups also noted down personal strengths, skills and ‘connections’ that could be used to serve their community.
Moving forwards….
The steering group, keen to act on the feedback received during the conversation, met soon after to discuss the issues raised and agree on the best way forward. This group continues to meet regularly to ensure that the momentum gained is not lost. We remain focused on our goal of using the people, organisations and resources within our communities to make a safer and kinder place for us all to live in!
