Shinewater Shaftesbury Centre

This Eastbourne centre is managed by Shinewater Community Church and provides support and guidance (e.g. debt counselling, housing, relationship matters, community issues). They also have trained counsellors and money advisors and work with local agencies.

 

 

What Happens at the Centre

  • General advice given on a variety of issues, including debt counselling, housing, relationship matters, benefits, community issues, etc
  • We have trained money advisors and trained counsellors available
  • 'Signpost' people to a variety of services, work closely with other local agencies
  • We have volunteers who run the reception desk who are good listeners and make people feel very welcome
  • In 2005 we saw 410 clients, totalling 1,010 appointments

Activities We Support

  • Lunch Club - A social group for older people. Around 30 people attend this group at St Barnabas each week
  • Diddies - Baby, toddler and parent group and a "toy library'. Diddies is a pre-school group that meets at Shinewater Community Centre on a Tuesday and Thursday morning
  • Crash Pad - Providing after school club activities, nurture groups, holiday activities and the 'Junior Youth Care'

Opportunities to Volunteer

  • Immediate Needs - The centre needs a facelift and we are looking for people to help with painting, decorating, general building work, installing new office systems, etc
  • Ongoing Needs - Receptionists, be trained as a Money Advisor, work with 'Breakfast Club' or 'Lunch Club', general administration

Our Prayer Network

  • Join our Prayer Network or attend the Prayer Meeting each Wednesday morning 09:15-10:00
