City Links working with Together for Berlin
A partnership has been developing between the team at City Links and the team at Together for Berlin! A team from Together for Berlin visited Manchester last year, after reading Debra + Frank Green's "City Changing Prayer" book.
Together for Berlin is an initiative in the Greater Berlin area whose goal is to reach all areas of society in the city with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The initiative has felt a call for unity between churches and organisations, and in 1999 began to have breakfast and prayer meetings 3 times a year, drawing together leaders from across the city. More information on the history of Together for Berlin can be found at www.gfberlin.de
The Together for Berlin team also began to host the 'Transforum' conference, drawing together Christians from across Berlin, and speakers from around Germany and beyond. The conference aims to explore ways in which the church in Berlin can connect with its neighbourhood, tackling questions such as:
- How do our churches gain missionary and social relevance?
- What symbolises a church that has influence on its neighbourhood and culture?
- How do we plant churches that are deeply rooted in the Gospel, and at the same time are completely focused on the people and the city?
The team at Together for Berlin have recognised that, as Germany's capital, Berlin is increasingly influential in the spheres of politics, culture, media and the arts within Germany. The city has a population of 3.4 million, the majority of whom are not currently engaged in church. The 'Transforum 2008' conference brought together speakers who could encourage the church community to engage with their wider community through prayer and action.
Debra and the City Links team were invited to speak at 'Transforum 2008' as a result of the Redeeming our Communities model, launched across the UK through City Links, inspiring the Transforum Team to see a similar initiative working in Germany.
The City Links team that travelled to Berlin would like to thank you for your prayers during their trip. A report of their trip can be read here.
